Origin and history
The manor house of the Clos de Pouvray is an emblematic 16th century building, located in the municipality of Vernou-sur-Brenne, in Indre-et-Loire. This monument, inscribed as historical monuments on June 1, 1964, is distinguished by its architecture characteristic of the Renaissance, with protected facades and roofs. The main building, of square shape, has modified windows in the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of these epochs.
Inside, a room on the upper floor still retains wooden panels and bricks, testimony of the original construction. The 18th century interior doors and woodwork add a touch of classic elegance. The estate belonged to the Duchess of La Vallière, a historical figure linked to the court of France, which reinforces its heritage importance.
Today, the manor house of Clos de Pouvray is a private property, located at 5 Rue de Pouvray. Although its access to the public is not specified, its inscription to historical monuments guarantees the preservation of this architectural and cultural heritage of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
