Origin and history

The Colombier mansion is an iconic building located in Hénon, in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, it is a typical example of Breton manorial architecture of this time. Its facades, roofs, as well as the chapel and the escape (pigeon) were listed as historical monuments in 1982, before the protection was extended in 2020 to the whole of the house, outbuildings, old orangery, and outdoor spaces (courtyards, gardens, park and pond). These carefully preserved elements illustrate the evolution of local architectural and landscape practices.

The 2020 protection now covers the entire area, including structures such as walls, gates, wells, or an old greenhouse and henhouse. These additions reflect a desire for global conservation, integrating both the building and the landscape that structure the site. The manor house, open to the public daily from 9am to 6pm, thus offers a complete testimony of seigneurial life in Brittany, between Renaissance and modern times. Its designation as historic monuments underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its integration into a coherent natural and architectural environment.

The site is managed by a local association, Vivre au Colombier, which organizes visits to the gardens and mansion. This associative involvement reflects a dynamic of valuing the heritage, aimed at making the public discover the history and the specificities of this place. The precise cadastral coordinates (parcelles n°142, 147, etc.) and GPS location (Le Pont Chevet, 22150 Hénon) allow to accurately identify the domain's right of way, strengthening its protection and enhancement in the Breton cultural landscape.
