Origin and history
Le Manoir du Plessis is a building located in Dance, on the territory of the new commune of Perche en Nocé, in the department of Orne in Normandy. This monument, dated from the 16th century, is representative of the rural architecture of the Perche, with a house body surrounded by commons organized around a rectangular courtyard. The staircase tower is integrated into the building, and the interior retains remarkable decorative elements, such as a painted Renaissance fireplace and beams decorated with motifs.
The fief of the Plessis was attested as early as 1250 and belonged to the castle of Bellême. The current building, built in the 16th century, was fully listed as the Historic Monuments on November 12, 1990. The commons, typical of the rural buildings of the Perche, and the interior decorations (old tiles, painted beams, interlaced letters) testify to its historical and architectural importance.
The mansion is distinguished by its protected elements, including the house and its outbuildings, as well as by its preserved interior decor. The East bedroom, upstairs, preserves much of its original ornamentation, with a Renaissance crow fireplace decorated with red numerals. These features make it a rare and well preserved example of the rural seigneurial habitat of the Renaissance in Normandy.
