Origin and history

The manor house of the Verger is a typical construction of the second half of the 16th century, although some parts may date back to the end of the 15th century. Located in Fervaques, today integrated into the new town of Livarot-Pays-d'Auge in Calvados, this wooden manor house illustrates the Norman domestic architecture of the Renaissance. Its state of conservation and its structural details make it a remarkable example of rural seigneurial residences of that time.

The manor house was partially listed as historical monuments by order of 1 December 1980. This protection concerns not only the main body of the mansion, but also outbuildings such as the bakery, as well as the facades and roofs of the shed and press, also with wooden panels. These elements underline the economic and social importance of the estate, where agricultural and residential activities coexisted.

Historical sources mention studies conducted by Henri Pellerin in the 1970s, published in Le Pays d'Auge. This work documents the evolution of the mansion and its anchoring in the local landscape. Although the archives do not reveal any specific owners or significant events, the mansion remains a material testimony of rural life in Normandy at the crossroads between the Middle Ages and modern times.
