Origin and history
The mansion of Vaux, classified as a Historical Monument, dates from the 17th century and is located in the commune of Vaux, in Haute-Garonne. This building features architectural elements typical of its time, like two classic gargoyles adorning the upper part of its facade. The back façade, built of local rough rubble, and the bay crucifixes, redesigned in the 17th century, bear witness to the construction techniques of the region.
Inside, the mansion retains some wooden ceilings in French, characteristic of bourgeois or aristocratic mansions of this period. The vestibule houses a small doric-style porch, probably an old entrance, highlighting the influence of classical architectural currents in vogue in the seventeenth century. The building was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 26 May 1944, thus recognizing its heritage value.
The location of the mansion in the village of Vaux reflects the rural organization of the Haute-Garonne in the seventeenth century, where manor houses often served as residences for local notables or landowners. These buildings played a central role in the economic and social life of the countryside, sometimes hosting administrative or agricultural activities. Their architecture, combining local materials and decorative elements inspired by national trends, illustrates the cultural exchanges of the period.
