Origin and history
Lezeu Manor House, located in Fleurey-sur-Ouche (Côte d'Or), dates from the 17th century. It housed a remarkable painted ceiling, typical of decorative art of that time, which earned it an inscription at the Historical Monuments on September 25, 1928. These ceilings, bearing witness to Burgundy's artistic heritage, were the most valuable element of the building.
In 1949, the painted ceilings were dismantled and transferred to Dijon, where they were resettled on the first floor of former stables, in a mansion located at 17 Bossuet Square. This move, motivated by reasons not yet specified in the sources, has permanently separated these works from their original setting. Their rediscovery in 1990 by Bernard Sonnet, then Curator of Antiquities and Art Objects of the Gold Coast, allowed to trace their history and their current location.
Today, Lezeu's mansion, deprived of its original decorations, retains historical and architectural value linked to its seigneurial past. The ceilings, now integrated into a Dijon building, remain accessible in a private context, illustrating the hazards of preserving the heritage of furniture. Their initial ranking shows the artistic importance recognized from the beginning of the 20th century.
