Origin and history
The Dutreil Hotel is a private hotel located in Laval, in the Mayenne department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Built around 1830, during the 2nd quarter of the 19th century, it illustrates the bourgeois architecture of this period, with a large-scale stonework coated with limestone elements (angle chains, bays, cornice). The central span, slightly protruding, marks an aesthetic research typical of the affluent urban residences of the July monarchy.
Originally, the hotel was surrounded by outbuildings (orangerie, stables, greenhouse, kennel) and a park extending to the Pont Neuf (now Aristide Briand Bridge). These developments reflected the way of life of the Laval elites, combining urban habitat with leisure or prestigious spaces. The subsequent piercing of François Pyrard Street however resulted in the destruction of part of the park and related buildings, profoundly altering the hotel's immediate surroundings.
The building was listed as historic monuments on March 29, 1990, recognizing its heritage value. This protection specifically concerns the main body of the building (cadastre AW 451), while its official address, at 36 quai Béatrix-de-Gavre and 25 rue Jules-Ferry, places the hotel in a historic area of Laval, marked by the proximity of the Mayenne and 19th century urban infrastructure.
