All the buildings of the manufacture, as well as the weaving machines (high smooth and smooth bass weaving machines), preserved in the workshops located in the east and west wings of the main building and in the building under sheds, the reeling machines, the tuning machine or " flute machine", the "grids" or reel displays and the lockers containing the wool skeins kept in the wool shops located on the ground floor of the east wing of the main building and in the workshops under sheds (Box AK 414, 415): inscription by order of 5 October 2012

Origin and history

The Hamot tapestry factory, located in Aubusson in Creuse, finds its origins in the early 19th century under the impulse of Jean Sallandrouze de Lamornaix and Guillaume Rogier. In 1826 Charles Sallandrouze de Lamornaix took over, followed by his son Octave in 1867. This line lays the foundation for an artisanal know-how that will continue in the region, known for its tapestries since the Middle Ages.

In 1883, the factory was bought by the brothers Georges and René Hamot, who made it a major centre of manufacture and trade of carpets, tapestries and fabrics for furnishing. Between 1885 and 1900, the site expanded with sed workshops, dyeing, dryers and boilers, reflecting increasing industrialization. Despite the crises of the 20th century, including World War I and 1930, the company maintains luxury production, symbolizing the sector's resilience.

After work related to the deviation of the national road, the factory gained a new facade on Avenue des Lissiers. In 1984, it was taken over and renamed "Manufactur Saint-Jean". Today, the site preserves time-old machines and furniture, such as smooth high and low looms or wool stores, which bear witness to its industrial past. Ranked a historic monument in 2012, it embodies Aubusson's textile heritage.

The architectural complex, including the main buildings and workshops, is protected for its integrity and role in local history. Preserved elements, such as spool displays or skeins, illustrate traditional weaving techniques. The factory remains an emblematic place, both because of its material heritage and its anchoring in the economic identity of the Creuse.
