Origin and history
The Mas de la Maison Basse, located in Boulbon in the Bouches-du-Rhône, is a building built during the second half of the seventeenth century. This monument illustrates the Provencal rural architecture of the period, marked by the influence of the enriched bourgeois, as evidenced by its sponsor, a notable Tarasconnais. The building retains remarkable decorative elements, including a painted wooden ceiling decorated with floral motifs, made in the early eighteenth century.
The restoration of the farmhouse in the mid-18th century reflects the evolution of tastes and techniques of the era. Ranked a Historical Monument by decree of 17 July 1996, it embodies the architectural and social heritage of pre-revolutionary Provence. Its staircase, with its decorated ceiling, is a rare example of the local craftsmanship of this period, mixing functionality and aesthetics.
Although the sources do not specify its current use, the Mas de la Maison Basse remains a testament to the economic and cultural dynamics of the region. Its location in Boulbon, near Tarascon, highlights its anchoring in a territory marked by trade and agriculture, dominant activities of the bourgeois and landowners of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
