Origin and history

Mas de Mayac is a former monastery located in Uzès, Gard department (Occitan region). Its buildings range from the 15th to the 19th century, with medieval remains and subsequent changes. Given to the Church in the 13th century by the Count of Toulouse, it served as a farm and residence for the Canons of the Cathedral of Uzes until the French Revolution, where it was sold as a national good.

The remaining west wing preserves elements of the original monastery, while the opposite wing was transformed into a magnanery in the 19th century. The northern building features a neo-Gothic brick gallery and stairs leading to Pigeon Towers. The facades and roofs, protected since 1987, bear witness to this complex history, mixing religious heritage and agricultural adaptations.

The site, now privately owned, illustrates the upheavals associated with the wars of Religion and the secularization of ecclesiastical property. Its hybrid architecture reflects the successive uses: place of worship, farm, and residence. The classified elements (cadastre AH 140a) underline its heritage importance in the Uzetian landscape.
