Origin and history

The house of Henry Jacques Le Same, located in Megève in the ascent of Calvaire, is a major architectural achievement of the first half of the twentieth century. Built in 1928, it embodies the modern interwar movement, with an innovative style that marked the French Alps. This building served as both a private residence and an agency for the architect, reflecting his avant-garde approach.

Henry Jacques Le Same (1897-1997), chief architect of reconstruction for Savoie and Haute-Savoie, designed nearly 250 chalets with new lines, mainly in Megève and Combloux. The house, classified as a historic monument in 1995, retains an interior decor of great elegance, testifying to its dual professional and personal use. Its heritage inscription underlines its importance in the history of Alpine architecture.

The place called La Combe and its precise address (98 ascent du Calvaire) anchor this monument in the Megevan landscape, where it dialogues with the other achievements of Le Same. Sources, such as the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Inventory or the Merimée base, document its manifest architectural status, symbolizing a break with local traditions while integrating harmoniously.
