Origin and history

The Menhir de Capo-di-Luogo is a megalithic monument located in Belvedere-Campomoro, South Corsica. This site, typical of prehistoric architecture, bears witness to the cultural and religious practices of neolithic societies. Its location in a coastal landscape suggests a potentially symbolic or territorial role, although its precise functions remain poorly known.

The ranking of the menhir by the list of 1862 makes it one of the first protected historical monuments in France. This early recognition reflects interest in prehistoric remains, often perceived as local identity markers, as early as the 19th century. Today, the site remains a material testimony of ancient occupations in Corsica, in a region where traces of Neolithic are relatively rare.

The location of the menhir, noted as "passible" (level 5/10) in databases, indicates a geographical inaccuracy that may complicate access or study. Despite this, its status as Historic Monument guarantees its preservation, while stressing its heritage importance for the municipality of Belvédère-Campomoro and beyond.
