Origin and history

The Menhir de Coat ar Ster is an iconic monument located in the commune of La Forêt-Fouesnant in Brittany. This type of megalithic structure, typical of Neolithic, reflects the cultural and religious practices of ancient populations. Menhirs, often isolated or regrouped, probably marked places of assembly or funeral sites, although their exact function remained subject to interpretation.

In prehistoric Brittany, communities lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and fishing. Megalithic monuments, such as menhirs, played a central role in the social and spiritual organization of these societies. Their erection required collective cooperation, reflecting a solid community structure.

The region, rich in remains of this period, offers a valuable overview of the lifestyles and beliefs of the first inhabitants of present-day Brittany.
