Origin and history
The Menhir de Haute-Lande is a megalithic monument erected during the Neolithic period, marked by the emergence of agriculture and livestock in Europe. Located in the Sorinières, in the Loire-Atlantique department, it reflects the cultural and religious practices of the first sedentary societies in the region. These erect stones, often associated with funeral or astronomical rites, were major symbolic landmarks in the landscape.
Menhir was officially recognized for its heritage value in 1960, when it was listed as a historic monument. This legal protection aims to preserve this rare vestige of prehistoric human activities in the Pays de la Loire. Today, there remains an emblematic example of local megalithism, integrated into the architectural and archaeological heritage of the Loire-Atlantique.
Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected monument and provide administrative details, such as its exact address (24 Rue des Celtes) and its Insee code (44198). This information makes it possible to locate the site precisely, while stressing its importance in the study of regional megalithic constructions.
