Origin and history
The two menhirs of Kergornec, located at Saint-Gilles-Pligeaux in the Côtes-d的Armor, date from Neolithic. Called La Grande-Pierre (7.10 m high) and Minhir-Goleun (4.10 m), they are 300 m distant and cut into porphyroid granite. The Grande-Pierre, flattened in shape, sits at the top of a ridge offering a vast panorama, while Minhir-Goleun stands half-coteau.
Classified historical monuments by decree of 1 March 1971, these megaliths illustrate the funerary and symbolic architecture of the period. Their preservation reflects the importance of megalithic sites in Brittany, a region rich in prehistoric remains. The detailed descriptions come in particular from the work of Loïc Langouët (The Megaliths of Guingamp District, 2006).
Their approximate location (6 Kergornec, 22480 Saint-Gilles-Pligeaux) and their legal protection make them key elements of the Côtes-d'Armor heritage. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm their status as emblematic monuments, open to the visit without particular restriction mentioned.
