Menhir dit Rohec south of the great tumulus of the Moustoir (cad. F 463) : classification by decree of 12 May 1926
Origin and history
The menhir dit Rohec is an emblematic vestige of the Neolithic period, located in the municipality of Carnac, Brittany. This megalithic monument, typical of prehistoric architecture, bears witness to the cultural and religious practices of the societies of the time. Its erection dates back to a period when local communities organized their territory around funeral and symbolic sites, as evidenced by the numerous alignments of Carnac.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 12 May 1926, the Menhir Rohec is distinguished by its precise location south of the large tumulus of the Moustoir. This classification reflects its heritage and archaeological significance, although details of its exact use or construction context remain partially unknown. The region of Carnac, rich in prehistoric vestiges, offers an exceptional setting for studying Breton megalithic traditions, marked by the erection of stones erected with still debated functions (tritual, commemorative or astronomical).
