Origin and history
The menhir du Boivre is a megalithic monument located in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Dating from Neolithic, it is distinguished by its pyramidal shape and its imposing dimensions: 3.80 meters high, 3 meters wide at the base and 1 meter thick. This type of structure reflects the cultural and religious practices of prehistoric societies in the region.
Menhir was registered as a historical monument by order of 5 December 1980. This official protection underscores its heritage and archaeological importance. It is referenced in the Mérimée base under the name of the megalithic stone called Menhir du Boivre, with a precise location at the place called Le Boivre, on the commune of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (code Insee 44154).
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, also mention its inclusion in inventories of the Loire-Atlantique megalithic sites. An ancient bibliographical reference, the Archaeological Dictionary of the Loire-Inferior (1882) of Pitre de Lisle du Dreneuc, attests to its existence and its interest in local studies on the Celtic and Gallo-Roman periods, although the menhir himself dates back to the Neolithic.
