Origin and history

The Menhir de Moëlan-sur-Mer is a megalithic vestige erected during the Neolithic period, marked by the emergence of agriculture and livestock in Europe. This type of monument, typical of Brittany, probably served as a territorial landmark, a place of worship or a funeral marker for local communities. Its location in the Finistère, a department rich in prehistoric sites, reflects the symbolic and practical importance of these stones erected in the landscape and social life of the time.

Ranked Historic Monument by order of 8 April 1982, this menhir enjoys legal protection that underscores its heritage value. Available data from the Merimée database and Monumentum indicate an approximate location near the so-called Kerzeler site, with geographical accuracy considered "passable". Although details of its exact use or erection context remain fragmentary, its listing as historical monuments guarantees its preservation for future generations.
