Menhir phallique dit Pierre Plantade (cad. C 680): classification by decree of 4 April 1911
Origin and history
The menhir phallique known as Pierre Plantade is an emblematic megalithic monument located in the municipality of Talizat, in the department of Cantal. A Neolithic, this erect stone reflects the cultural and religious practices of prehistoric societies in the region. Its phallic character suggests a connection to fertility rituals or symbolic beliefs of that time.
Ranked as historic monuments by order of 4 April 1911, this menhir enjoys official protection that underscores its heritage importance. Menhirs, typical of megalithism, were often erected as territorial markers, places of worship or symbols of power. The Plantade Stone is part of a larger set of megalithic sites in the Cantal, reflecting the ancient human occupation of this territory.
The location of the Pierre Plantade, although documented (Mérimée address: 15170 Talizat), remains approximate according to the available sources, with a location accuracy assessed as poor (level 5/10). This monument, like other megaliths, offers an overview of the architectural and spiritual knowledge of the Neolithic communities of Auvergne, now integrated into the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
