Origin and history
The two menhirs of Kergoff, located in Boqueho in the Côtes-d'Armor, date from Neolithic. They are 90 meters away and cut into porphyroid granite. The largest, called the White Stone, is 2.50 metres tall and has a pyramidal shape, while the second, smaller, adopts a pentagonal shape with 1.70 metres high. These two stones have distinct geometric characteristics, such as a cavity on one of the menhirs.
Classified as historical monuments by order of 25 April 1966, these menhirs illustrate the importance of megalithic sites in Brittany. Their official protection underscores their heritage and archaeological value. Sources, such as Loïc Langouët's work or Monumentum's data, confirm their precise location in Kergoff, near Boqueho, in a rural environment marked by megalithic history.
Their presence attests to the cultural and religious practices of neolithic societies in Brittany. These monuments, often associated with funeral or astronomical rites, reflect a complex social organization. Their conservation allows us to study the techniques of size and erection of megaliths, as well as their role in the prehistoric Breton landscape.
