Origin and history
The menhirs de la Rainière are two menhirs located in Saint-Hilaire-la-Forêt, in the Vendée department, in the Pays de la Loire region. These monuments date from the Neolithic and are characteristic of the megalithic constructions of this period. They have been erected side by side on a north-south axis and are composed of granite, a material typical of the prehistoric sites of the region.
Menhirs were listed as historic monuments by an order of 6 July 1995, recognizing their heritage importance. Their juxtaposed disposition and materiality make them outstanding witnesses to the cultural and religious practices of local neolithic societies.
According to available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, these menhirs are located precisely at the following address: 2 La Rainière, 85440 Saint-Hilaire-la-Forêt. Their official protection underscores their archaeological and historical value, while allowing their preservation for future generations.
