Origin and history

Millière House is a half-timbered Gothic house built in the 4th quarter of the 15th century in Dijon, Côte-d'Or. It is distinguished by its typical medieval structure and its location at 10 rue de la Chouette, in the historic centre of the city, close to Notre-Dame church and the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. Ranked a historic monument in 1943, it illustrates the Burgundy civil architecture of the late Middle Ages.

In 1483, the drapier merchant Guillaume Millière and his wife Guillemette Durand built this house. The building, originally residential, bears witness to the prosperity of the Dijon traders at that time. In the 17th century, the hotel of Vogüé was built next to it, marking the urban evolution of the neighborhood. Millière House remains a remarkable example of medieval bourgeois habitation, preserved despite centuries.

In 1989, the house served as a decor for a few scenes from Jean-Paul Rappeneau's film Cyrano de Bergerac, with Gérard Depardieu, immortalizing his picturesque setting on screen. Five minutes of the film were shot there, contributing to its reputation. After a restoration in 1998, it was transformed into a boutique, tea salon and restaurant of Burgundy cuisine, managed by Lydia and Jean-François Lieutet.

Today, Millière House combines heritage and contemporary life. Its classification as a historical monument and its emblematic location make it a must-see place to discover the history and gastronomy of Dijon. The protected elements include the entire structure, as defined by the 1943 Classification Order.
