Origin and history

The monastery of the Immaculate Conception, also called Les Récolettes, is a religious monument located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Built during the second quarter of the seventeenth century, it embodies the monastic architecture of this period, marked by a strong influence of the Catholic Counter-Reform. The building is now partially protected, with a facade inscribed in the Historical Monuments since 1965.

The location of the monastery, at 83-85 rue du Bac, reflects the gradual urbanization of the left bank of Paris under the Ancien Régime. At that time, women's religious orders, such as that of the Récolettes, played a major social and spiritual role, providing shelter, education and care to local populations. These monasteries were often integrated into the urban fabric, participating in the daily life of the neighbourhoods.

The site is now owned by a private company, and its current use (visits, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources. The accuracy of its location is considered poor (note 5/10), which may indicate uncertainties about its exact grip or subsequent transformations. The data comes mainly from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform.
