Origin and history
The monument to Charles Emmanuel II de Savoie, located in Saint-Christophe en Savoie, is a 17th century work. This monument, whose location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), has been inscribed in the Historical Monuments since July 22, 1952. It is precisely at 196 Route des Grand-Cyses, in the commune of Saint-Christophe, identified by the code Insee 73129.
This type of monument, erected in the seventeenth century, often reflects the importance of the political or aristocratic figures of the time in Savoyard territories. At that time, Savoy was marked by a hierarchical social organization, where monuments were used to affirm the power and legitimacy of local leaders. The economic activities of the region were then based on agriculture, crafts and trade with neighbouring territories, particularly in the Alpine valleys.
Public monuments, like this one, played a symbolic role in community life, recalling the authority and history of the ruling dynasties.
