Origin and history
The monument to Joan of Arc libératrice, located on Place Jeanne of Arc in Patay, was erected in the early twentieth century. It consists of a statue in iron cast iron, full size, representing Jeanne d'Arc in armor, open helmet and plume, holding his sword and banner. The base, adorned with a bronze frieze of Lorrain thistles in a style derived from Art Nouveau, also supports the heroin coat of arms. The surrounding grid, with stylized spades, completes the ensemble, reflecting the artistic influence of the era.
Inaugurated in 1913 during a public ceremony, this monument is part of a local tradition of tributes to Joan of Arc, already beatified in 1909. The statue, the work of sculptor Louis Fournier, was bought on catalogue and took over the model installed at Beaugency in 1894. This choice illustrates the distribution of serial models by foundries, as evidenced by the original plaster preserved in the Ferry-Capitain fonds. The monument, classified in total (statue, base and grid), symbolizes the national tribute given to heroin before the First World War.
The monument is representative of the patriotic commemorations of the early twentieth century, mixing art and history. Its late Art Nouveau style, visible in the frieze and grid, contrasts with the classicism of the statue. Owned by the commune of Patay (Loiret), there remains a place of memory accessible to the public, although its exact location is considered poor (precision 5/10). The inscription in the Historic Monuments in 2025 confirmed its heritage value, protecting the whole within its original limits.
