Origin and history

Urrugne's Monument to the Dead 1914-1918 is a memorial building in Urrugne, New Aquitaine. In the first quarter of the twentieth century, he paid tribute to the soldiers who had fallen in the first world conflict, reflecting the local will to perpetuate their collective memory. This type of monument, common in the 1920s, symbolized the pain of communities after the Great War.

In New Aquitaine, as elsewhere in France, these buildings served as a gathering point for patriotic ceremonies and shared mourning. Their architecture and location – often central – emphasized their social and memorial role in the life of villages and cities.
