Origin and history

The monument to the dead of Labrit, located near the church, was created in 1922 by sculptor Robert Wlérick. It commemorates the First World War soldiers (1914-1918). The work is distinguished by a sober but evocative composition: a flat stele supports a statue representing a veiled widow and her daughter, embodying family mourning. Two side bas-reliefs are the profiles of a young and an old hairy, highlighting the generational impact of the conflict.

This monument, classified in its entirety (including its grids) by decree of 21 October 2014, illustrates the commemorative art of the 1920s. Its location near the church, in the heart of Labrit (Landes), makes it a central place of memory for the local community. The accuracy of its location is estimated passable (note 5/10), according to available data, with an approximate address at 51 Church Square.

Owned by the municipality of Labrit (code Insee 40135), the monument is part of the historical heritage of New Aquitaine. The archives mention its inclusion in the general inventory via the Merimée database, without further details on any restorations or associated ceremonies.
