Origin and history
The French Memorial in Noisseville is a commemorative building dedicated to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Located in the commune of Noisseville (Moselle, Grand Est), it was built in the early twentieth century, more precisely in 1908. This monument symbolizes the memory of the fighting in this region, marked by the conflicts between France and Prussia.
Designed by architect T. Guérin and sculptor Emmanuel Hannaux, the monument was inaugurated on 4 October 1908 during a ceremony marked by pro-French patriotic demonstrations. Its classification as Historic Monument by decree of 30 November 1987 protects not only the structure itself, but also its enclosure and its aister, emphasizing its heritage importance.
Owned by an association, the monument is part of a post-conflict context where Lorraine, then under German influence after the annexation of 1871, saw the emergence of symbols of resistance and attachment to France. Its location in Noisseville, close to Metz, reinforces its memorial character in a strategically contested area.
Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, specify its official address (4 rue au Blé) and its Insee code (57510), confirming its territorial anchor. The approximate GPS location suggests a proximity to Montoy-Flanville, but the mapping accuracy remains limited (level 6/10).
