Windmill including vestiges of wings and mechanism (Box B 330): inscription by order of 26 March 1982
Origin and history
The Mouilleron-en-Pareds windmill is an iconic 19th-century building located in the current territory of Mouilleon-Saint-Germain, in the Vendée department. This monument, classified among the Historical Monuments since 1982, includes the remains of its wings and its original mechanism. Its listing in the inventory of Historic Monuments by decree of 26 March 1982 underlines its heritage importance, although its exact location is now estimated as "passable" according to the criteria of geographical precision.
Windmills, such as that of Mouilleon-en-Pareds, played a central role in the rural economy of the 19th century, especially in agricultural regions such as the Pays de la Loire. They allowed the milling of cereals, an activity essential for local communities. This type of construction reflects the technical know-how of the time, while illustrating the adaptation of populations to available natural resources, such as wind. Their gradual decline, linked to industrialization and the emergence of new technologies, has made them valuable witnesses to a way of life that is now gone.
Available information indicates that the mill is located near the "Rochers de Mouleron", in an area now attached to the commune of Mouleron-Saint-Germain. The administrative data specify its connection to Insee code 85154, confirming its anchoring in the Vendée. Although details of its exact use or historic owners are lacking, its status as a Historic Monument guarantees its preservation as an element of local and regional heritage.
