Windmill of the Noue-Ronde (cad. A 297): inscription by order of 1 August 1975

Origin and history

The windmill of the Noue-Ronde is a building located in Coron, in the department of Maine-et-Loire (Pays de la Loire). Built in the fourth quarter of the 19th century, more precisely in 1890, it replaces an earlier mill mentioned in 1764. This flour mill, raised tower type with a shingle hairstyle, was strategically placed at the edge of the Vihiers road. Its architecture and mechanism, including Berton wings installed in 1941, reflect the technical developments of the time.

The mill has undergone several phases of use and adaptation. After its reconstruction in 1890, it was rehabilitated in 1941, incorporating innovations such as a locomobile or gas engine to complete its wind turbine operation. These changes illustrate the transition between traditional energies and emerging technologies in the twentieth century. The building, with its parcellar setting (cadastre A 297), was officially recognized for its heritage value by an inscription as historic monuments on 1 August 1975.

Although the sources mention an approximate location (5404 La Noue Ronde, 49690 Coron) with a priori satisfactory accuracy, little information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary uses. Its history remains closely linked to local milling and regional communication networks, as evidenced by its position along a strategic road. The archives and the Merimée base refer to it as a representative example of the industrial and artisanal heritage of Angelvin.
