Origin and history
The Moulin de la Blies, built in 1841 by Alexandre de Geiger on the banks of the Blies in Sarreguemines, was a rock mill dedicated to the preparation of pasta for local earthenware. Working until 1969, it symbolizes the golden age of faience production in Lorraine, a major activity for the region since the 18th century.
Purchased by the city in 1990, the site was transformed in 1998 into a museum of Faiencières Techniques, highlighting historical know-how. In 2009, its gardens were open to the public. The mill gained national fame in 2015 by representing Lorraine in Le Monument preferré des Français, where it ranked 9th.
In 2018, the Franco-German couple France and Wolfgang Kermer offered the city their collection Céramique française 1970–2000, exhibited at the mill. This donation, bringing together nearly a hundred ceramicists, enriches the museum with a unique panorama of contemporary ceramic creation. On the occasion of the museum's 20th anniversary, the Kermers also commissioned a work in situ by Gilles Greff, a ceramicist mediator of the museums of Sarreguemines.
