Moulin de Maupertuis and the machines it contains (Case AR 330, 543) : inscription by order of 6 November 1991

Origin and history

The Maupertuis mill, located in Donzy in the Nièvre department, is an industrial building marked by its inscription as the Historical Monuments. This status, obtained by order of 6 November 1991, protects not only the structure of the mill, but also the machines it contains, thus demonstrating its heritage and technical importance. The building, now owned by an association, retains a rare mechanical complex, offering an overview of traditional milling techniques.

Donzy, located in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region, is a commune whose history is closely linked to the exploitation of natural resources, including water and forests. The mills, like Maupertuis, played a central role in the local economy, transforming the cereals for the inhabitants and the surrounding markets. These infrastructures were often places of assembly and exchange, contributing to the social and economic life of the villages.

The Maupertuis mill is now accessible to the public according to specific seasonal schedules, allowing visitors to discover its operation and history. Its exact address, 57 Rue André Audinet, and GPS location make it an easily identifiable site. The accuracy of its location is considered satisfactory, thus facilitating its access and tourist exploitation.
