Windmill called mill of Patouillet (Box SW 21): inscription by order of 28 March 1977
Origin and history
The Patouillet Mill, located in Charcé-Saint-Ellier-sur-Aubance, is a building built in the 4th quarter of the 19th century. Although little documented, it is part of the tradition of windmills in the region, often linked to agricultural and milling activities of the time. In the Pays de la Loire, windmills played a central role in the 19th century rural economy.
They allowed to grind local cereals, thus supporting peasant communities. Their architecture, often robust and functional, reflected the technical needs and craftsmanship of the period.
