Origin and history
Delestic Mill is an iconic building located in Reillanne, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. Built in 1859 on the ruins of an old mill, it rises on the banks of the Largue, a local river. This building owes its name to the Delestic family, the owner of the premises until 2007, when the municipality acquired it to preserve it.
The mill was listed as a historic monument in 1993, recognizing its heritage value. Its history is linked to the traditional milling activity of the region, essential for 19th century rural communities. Mills, like Delestic's, played a central role in the local economy, transforming cereals grown in the surrounding area.
The Delestic family, originally from Reillanne, marked the history of the mill by its long property, extending over nearly 150 years. Their name remains associated with this heritage, symbol of the link between local families and their industrial heritage. Today, the mill bears witness to the utilitarian architecture of the mid-19th century and the importance of water courses in the establishment of artisanal activities.
