Origin and history

Moulin de Roupeyrac and Musée François Fabié is a heritage complex located in Durenque, Aveyron, Occitanie region. This site brings together two emblematic mills of the Segala: the Moulin Haut and the Moulin Bas, illustrating traditional local activities such as grain milling, nut oil production and sawing thanks to a 19th century sawmill still in operation. A typical rouergate house completes this set, offering a living testimony of ancestral know-how.

François Fabié's home (1846-1928), a poet nicknamed the "Singre du Rouergue", was integrated into the museum and classified as a writer's house by the Federation of Literary Heritages. The museum journey traces his life, his work and his links with the Rouergate land, through rooms dedicated to his genealogy, his years in Toulouse and Paris, as well as a dining room where his poems are highlighted. The museum also offers a poetic course in the middle of nature, linking the two mills.

Before the French Revolution, the mills belonged to the Marquis de Bournazel, local lord. Confiscated as national property, they were acquired in 1804 by François Fabié's grandfather, a miller by profession. The site, now renovated, also includes an operational flour mill and houses a statue-menhir, symbol of local heritage. Cultural events, such as the annual "Literature in Lagast" symposium or temporary exhibitions, are regularly organized to celebrate the poet's memory and regional traditions.

The museum strives to perpetuate a living culture, combining industrial and literary heritage. The visit begins with an introductory video about François Fabié, followed by demonstrations of old machines (beating saw, grinding wheels) and ends with the discovery of the house of writer. Events such as the Fête du Pain, children's snacks or tastings of regional products are animating the site, especially in summer.

The Colloquium "Literature en Lagast", directed by Rémi Soulé, explores an author or literary theme every year, with editions dedicated to Henri Bosco (2010), René-Guy Cadou (2011), Jean Boudou (2012) or Alain-Fournier (2013). These meetings give rise to publications in the Literature Papers in Lagast, strengthening the cultural reach of the museum beyond Aveyron.
