Origin and history

The Bressuire Municipal Museum was founded in 1972. It has developed through acquisitions and donations, focusing its collections on two main themes: local history and the arts of fire. This choice reflects the importance of the region's artisanal traditions, including pottery, and interest in the historical heritage of the Deux-Sèvres.

The museum houses a remarkable collection of utility ceramics from Saint-Porchaire, produced in this area of Bressuire for more than a thousand years, from the ninth century BC until the 1960s. These pieces illustrate the evolution of techniques and uses of local ceramics. The museum also exhibits works by Max Ingrand, a glass artist renowned for his work on light and glass.

Set in ancient wheat halls built in the early 19th century, the museum enjoys a historic architectural setting. This building, typical of the time, bears witness to the past economic activity of Bressuire, linked to the grain trade. The museum is labeled "Musée de France", guaranteeing the quality of its collections and management.

The location of the museum on the town hall square makes it a central place in the commune. Although the available geographical data are considered poor (precision 5/10), its official address is clearly identified as being at 4 Place de l'Hôtel de Ville in Bressuire, in the Deux-Sèvres department.
