Origin and history

The Aigremont Municipal Museum is located in the former communes of a medieval castle, now located in the Haute-Marne department, in the Grand Est region. Although its exact location is sometimes confused with Bourbonne-les-Bains (especially in databases such as Museofile), it retains major archaeological remains, including objects linked to an ancient Gallo-Roman spa. These collections include funerary steles, statues of deities, and artifacts dedicated to the Gallic and Roman gods, reflecting a significant ancient occupation in the region.

The museum also houses a collection of naturalized birds, mainly from the Plateau de Langres, as well as paintings by local artists from the Haute-Marne. These elements reflect both the natural and cultural history of the territory. The establishment benefits from the label Musée de France, stressing its role in the preservation and enhancement of regional heritage. Its website, associated with the commune of Bourbonne-les-Bains, suggests municipal or inter-municipal management.

The heritage interest of the site also resides in its architectural setting: the ancient commons of the medieval castle, although little detailed in the sources, offer a historical setting to the collections. However, the geographical accuracy of the museum remains approximate, with GPS coordinates and addresses sometimes associated with Bourbonne-les-Bains, a neighbouring commune. This ambiguity could be explained by a shared management or a reference error in databases.
