Origin and history

The Port Launay heritage complex, located in Place Charles-de-Gaulle, consists of four major elements: the town hall-school, the church Saint-Nicolas, a fountain and the old customs post. These buildings, protected by a registration order of 5 July 2024, form a coherent whole reflecting local history. Their preservation bears witness to the importance attached to this communal heritage, both architecturally and historically.

The town hall-school illustrates the evolution of public institutions, combining administrative and educational functions, while the church Saint-Nicolas, fully protected, embodies the religious heritage of the region. The fountain and the customs post recall, respectively, daily usage and past economic activities, such as cross-border trade. The whole is located in Finistère, Brittany, a region marked by a strong cultural and historical identity.

The listing of Historic Monuments in 2024 highlights the heritage value of this complex, whose facades, roofs and surrounding grounds are now protected. The location on the central square, cadastralized in section AI, strengthens its anchor in the community life of Port-Launay, a village of Finistère attached to the district of Quimper.
