Origin and history

The Belmondo Museum and figurative sculpture of the 20th century was born from an exceptional donation in 2007. The children of the sculptor Paul Belmondo – Muriel, Alain and Jean-Paul – gave to the city of Boulogne-Billancourt a set of 263 sculptures and moulds, 452 medals, as well as 966 drawings. This fund also includes sketchbooks, tools and workshop furniture, providing a complete testimony of its creative process. Inaugurated in September 2010, the museum even reconstructs the artist's work space, inspired by his Parisian workshop in Montparnasse.

The museum of the place is inspired by the cabinets of 18th century curiosities, combining sobriety and intimacy. A tactile gallery, supported by the Fondation Aéroports de Paris, allows visitors to understand works by touching them, revealing the materiality of the sculptural gesture. The tour also includes visiting reserves, a garden and a court of honour where bronzes from Belmondo and other contemporary sculptors are displayed. Two bronze works, acquired through private donations, are presented.

Ranked Musée de France, the establishment showcases a rare artistic heritage, while offering temporary exhibitions. His address, 35 Rue Georges Sorel, is located in Hauts-de-Seine (Department 92), in the heart of a region marked by a rich cultural heritage. The museum also dialogues with an 18th century madness, the Château Buchillot, highlighting the architectural and historical diversity of Boulogne-Billancourt.
