Origin and history
The Valençay Automobile Museum was born from the passion of the Guignard brothers, collectors' garage operators. They have assembled and restored old cars, forming a unique collection dedicated to French automotive history. In 2001, the museum moved to new premises, near Valençay Castle, to offer a space suitable for its exhibitions.
The museum exhibits about 60 running vehicles, as well as engine parts, accessories, license plates and old advertising items. Notable pieces include rally cars, including the one that took part in Paris-Dakar in 1996 with Pierre Lartigue. Archives, photographs and documents complete the collections, illustrating the evolution of the automobile.
In 2010, the Association des Amis du Musée Automobile de Valençay (AMAV) organized an exhibition on the theme of the rally, in collaboration with Renault Histoire et Collection, the Citroën Conservatory and the Valençay community of municipalities. This initiative has strengthened the outreach of the museum, which also relies on partnerships with major car heritage players.
