Origin and history
The Peugeot Adventure Museum is a space dedicated to the industrial and automotive history of the Peugeot brand, located in Sochaux, Doubs department (Burgundy-Franche-Comté). Founded in 1988 on the initiative of the Peugeot family, it is located near the historical site of Sochaux-Montbéliard, the company's former production centre. The museum exhibits a varied collection: iconic vehicles, sewing machines, tools, and Peugeot stamped objects, illustrating the diversity of the brand's activities since the 19th century.
In 1982, Pierre Peugeot, then Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the PSA Group, created the association L-Aventure Peugeot to preserve family and industrial heritage. The museum opened its doors in 1988 in an old brewery, with a décor inspired by the Belle Époque. It has two major extensions: in 2000, its triple surface area, and in 2010, an expansion of 1,500 m2 was made for the two-hundredth anniversary of Peugeot, bringing to 130 the number of vehicles exhibited in a total collection of 450.
The museum also houses historical archives, some of which are preserved at the Terre Blanche Centre in Herimoncourt, a former Peugeot factory in 1833. In 2015, the Peugeot, Citroën and DS collections were outsourced and entrusted to the association L-Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS. The site attracts 50 000-60,000 visitors annually, of which 25 % are foreigners, and offers complementary spaces such as a brasserie-restaurant and a shop.
The exhibitions cover a wide range of Peugeot products: mythical automobiles (such as 205 Turbo 16 or 908, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2009), cycles, motorcycles, and everyday objects (sewing machines, radio stations). The museum also highlights figures such as the designers Darl.
