Origin and history

The Thierache Museum is closely linked to the Archaeological and Historical Society of Vervins and La Thierache, which has built its collections from donations from its members. These objects, mainly archaeological or from local popular culture, reflect the region's material heritage, from prehistoric times to Gallo-Roman times, through traditional tools and furniture.

The themes covered cover a broad spectrum: national archaeology (Prehistory, Protohistory, Gallo-Roman period), ethnology (trades, tools, furniture), as well as an ancient background printed and books of bibliophilia. The museum particularly highlights elements related to Verbinum, Gallo-Roman site, and preserves paintings and engravings depicting fortified churches, characteristic of the Thierache.

Set in a historic building, the museum enjoys a remarkable setting: the old kitchens of Château Neuf (16th century), adding an architectural heritage dimension to its collections. Labeled Musée de France, it is part of a process of valorizing the territory, in collaboration with the local tourism office.
