Origin and history
The Musée départemental des Arts et Techniques de Champlitte was inaugurated in 1992, replacing the collections of the Musée d'Arts et Traditions Populaires. It is part of a museum approach focused on the reconstruction of historical spaces, offering a dive into the daily life of the first half of the twentieth century. His exhibitions reproduce typical shops and workshops of the time, illustrating the know-how and trades lost or transformed.
This museum is the third and last born of the departmental museums of Haute-Saône. Its pedagogical approach, based on immersive reconstructions, makes it a unique place to understand the evolution of local craft and industrial techniques. It is integrated into a regional cultural network, as evidenced by its links with the Franche-Comté Museum Portal and the Haute-Saône Museum List.
Although built in a rural area, the museum goes beyond the local setting by documenting practices that marked the economic and social history of France in the 20th century. Its existence also reflects the desire to preserve a material and intangible heritage, often threatened by the oblivion or accelerated modernization of production methods.
