Origin and history
The Canson and Montgolfier Stationery Museum is a space dedicated to industrial and scientific history, located in Davezieux. It highlights the heritage of the Montgolfier Brothers, pioneers of the aerostation, as well as that of the Canson company, famous for its stationery. The museum occupies the former buildings of the Stationeries Montgolfier-Canson, a site listed as historical monuments since 2012, which demonstrates its architectural and historical importance.
This museum was awarded the Maisons des Illustres label in 2012, a recognition that underscores its role in the valorisation of prominent personalities in French history. The collections and exhibitions evoke both the technical innovations of the Montgolfier, particularly in the field of aeronautics, and the paper heritage of the Canson family, whose influence has been spreading for centuries.
The link between these two industrial dynasties, the Montgolfier and the Cansons, is at the heart of the museum. The site itself, through its architecture and layout, offers a concrete testimony of the activities that are carried out there. Visitors can discover ancient machines, archival documents and objects related to the history of paper and air balloons.
