Origin and history
The Vanneau Mill, located in Saints-en-Puisaye, Yonne, is an eco-museum dedicated to rural life and an educational farm. The site is organized around a water mill still in operation, powered by the Branlin, and accessible via the Puisaye-Forterre tourist train. It houses collections on agricultural work and daily life in Puisaye at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as about 100 animals raised on 43 hectares.
Every year since 1986, the event The harvests of yesteryear recreate traditional harvests with ancient tools, attracting visitors in August. The mill, of auget type and above, illustrates historical hydraulic techniques. In 2021, an accident involving a horse and a carriage injured ten people, including eight children, during a school visit.
The museum highlights the rural heritage of Puisaye, combining the preservation of know-how, education and tourism. Its mill, still functional, symbolizes the ingenuity of traditional renewable energy systems. The site is also linked to the Yonne museum network and the local tourist train, strengthening its territorial anchor.
