Origin and history
The Musée du Nord Vendée, originally named Museum of Montaigu, was founded by Mr. Laronze, former Mayor of Montaigu, and inaugurated on 10 July 1978. It is housed in a historic building linked to the old castle of the city, although its exact location (Place de l'Hôtel de Ville) is sometimes confused between La Boissière-de-Montaigu and Montaigu-Vendée, as evidenced by the divergent addresses in the official databases. The museum benefits from the label Musée de France, guaranteeing the quality of its collections and its heritage mission.
The museum's collections illustrate Montacute life from the Gallo-Roman period to the contemporary era, through everyday objects (clothes, tools) and artistic works. One of its major assets is the Pavillon des Nourrices, a 17th century building that evokes an unknown part of local history. The accuracy of its geographical location is considered poor (note 5/10), reflecting inconsistencies between GPS coordinates and recorded addresses.
The museum stands as a place of memory for the Vendée Nord, highlighting the tangible and intangible heritage of the inhabitants. Its telephone (02 51 09 21 21) and its administrative connection to the commune of Montaigu (code Insee 85025) confirm its territorial anchoring in the department of Vendée, in the Pays de la Loire region. Available sources (Monumentum, Museofile) highlight its role in preserving local identity.
