Origin and history
The Jadis-Allevard Museum originated in the 1970s and 1980s, when local history enthusiasts gathered collections around the Allevardin steel industry and thermalism. These objects, which bear witness to the region's industrial and cultural heritage, were preserved and valued by volunteers before being transferred to the municipality in 2005. This year marks a turning point, as the museum then obtains the official designation Musée de France, recognizing its heritage and educational vocation.
In 2016, the management of the museum was entrusted to the community of communes Le Grésivaudan, marking a new stage in its development. Today, the museum is preparing a move to the former casino of the Thermal Park of Allevard, an ambitious project requiring careful work: inventory, restoration, packaging of collections and reserve development. This future location, full of history, should offer a suitable setting for the presentation of these emblematic collections.
The themes addressed by the museum cover three main areas: ethnology, local history, and industrial techniques, with particular attention to steel and thermalism. These collections reflect the identity of Allevard, a city whose economy and culture have been deeply influenced by these activities. The museum thus plays a key role in transmitting this heritage to future generations.
