Origin and history

The Jeanne-d'Arc Museum was created in 1953 in Rouen, 28 rue de Crosne, by Roger Parment. This private wax museum traced the life of Jeanne d'Arc from his birth in 1412 in Domrémy until his death in 1431 in Rouen. He presented carved wax characters and works by artists such as Maxime Real del Sarte, Frédéric Legrip and Pierre Le Trividic.

In 1955, the museum moved to 33 Place du Vieux-Marché, near the stake where Jeanne d'Arc was burned. Reprised by André Préaux and managed by his son Alain Préaux, he closed permanently in 2012. The collections were dispersed during public auctions on 28 October 2012. The visit lasted between 30 minutes and an hour, including a crypt dedicated to the Hundred Years War.

After its closure, the Métropole Rouen Normandie opened in 2015 the Historial Jeanne d'Arc in the Arch-episcopal Palace, rue Saint-Romain. This new museum space has filled Jeanne d'Arc's need for historical valorisation in Rouen, succeeding the former wax museum.
