Origin and history
The Mathurin-Meheut Museum was founded in 1972 thanks to the legacy of Maryvonne Méheut, daughter of the artist, who passed on her father's workshop fund and a collection of his works. This legacy provided the basis for the museum's collections, which were subsequently enriched by donations and subsequent acquisitions. The aim was to preserve and enhance the artistic heritage of Mathurin Méheut, an emblematic figure of Brittany.
The museum will be housed in one of the former stables of the Haras national de Lamballe-Armor, a historic site being renovated to accommodate the public from 2022. This new space will offer a permanent journey as well as temporary exhibitions, designed to highlight the diversity and richness of the artist's work. The project aims to create an attractive and suitable cultural place, while integrating local architectural heritage.
The museum benefits from the label Musée de France and is located in Lamballe-Armor, Côtes-d'Armor, Brittany. His official address is Place de Martray, although approximate GPS coordinates also locate him on Rue Docteur Calmette. This double geographical anchor reflects its cultural and tourist importance in the region.
