Origin and history

The Yves Saint Laurent Paris Museum opened its doors on October 3, 2017, fifteen years after the closing of the haute couture house. Located in the historic mansion of 5 avenue Marceau, this place was the creative heart of Yves Saint Laurent between 1974 and 2002. On 450 m2, it presents a unique heritage through retrospective routes and renewed thematic exhibitions, reflecting the genius of the designer and the processes of creating his collections.

The Pierre Bergé Foundation - Yves Saint Laurent, at the origin of the museum, exhibits not only the work of one of the greatest names of the fashion of the twentieth century, but also a part of the history of haute couture and its art of living gone. The scenography, signed Nathalie Crinière, and the decoration, entrusted to Jacques Grange, restore the original atmosphere of the workshops, offering an immersion in the world of the designer.

As the first Parisian museum dedicated to a fashion designer, it is a tribute to the legacy of Yves Saint Laurent. The building, classified among the Musées de France, thus preserves the memory of a time when haute couture embodied a know-how and elegance today mythical.
